    * R-Ladder ♻️ * Recently, Business in Wind had the Inspectorate of governmental Environment & Transport (IL&T) on the floor. The occasion was the following: They have seen us loading wind turbines on Polish trucks in Rotterdam, visited the site and noticed these wind turbines had the destination Ukraine. The inspection questioned whether we were not engaged in cross-border waste transport with wind turbines.   Business in Wind was able to prove where the turbines came from and where they went.  We always have to report this in detail to our partners as well. Secretly disposing of wind turbines to a landfill, you don't have to come to us for that.  It ended up being a nice conversation and the inspectors left our office without any comments or remarks and a lot of additional information about what we do in this industry.    Business in Wind has been buying used wind turbines since 2018 and can perform the entire chain in-house. We disassemble, overhaul and rebuild them all over the world.  Quite a few people still think that used wind turbines go to Eastern Europe or Africa as castoffs, but that's not the case.  Our main market for used wind turbines is for example, England, Wales, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Finland and Scotland.    For every turbine that is offered to us, the so-called R-Ladder comes into the picture: all parts are examined to see whether they can be #Reused, #Refurbished, #Repurposed or #Recycled. Reuse a wind turbine at another location, that is always preferred. When it is technically and economically feasible, we install it again. In case refurbishment is required, we do that ourselves or we outsource it. If that is no longer feasible, we disassemble the turbine and sell the parts as Spare Parts or use them to refurbish other wind turbines. When Reuse is no longer possible, we look at whether Repurpose is possible: giving the wind turbine parts a new purpose. There are already several good examples of this, such as playgrounds, sound barriers, floating parts for floating constructions and climbing walls.   In addition, several companies have started recycling of wind turbine composites in various ways, no need to take them to a landfill. It is all about circularity and stay away from waste. *** Would you also like to work in the renewable world of wind energy? Take part in our adventure and make a difference! * Circular wind turbine foundations * Demolishing the foundation is the finishing part of the decommissioning of a wind turbine. And so is building the foundation the start of installing a wind turbine. Both we are doing. Very close to a sea dike and Oosterscheldekering in #Jacobahaven (in the south of the Netherlands) a foundation is being demolished. The insert ring of the Vestas V90 3MW will go to Italy, concrete debris and reinforcement steel will be recycled. At the same time in Belgium for a project of Bolckmans Groep, the reinforcement steel is completed and checked today. Pouring concrete will be done coming Monday. This is also for a #Vestas V90, this time 2MW. It is the first used wind turbine to be installed in #Belgium. Next month this wind turbine will be installed. *** H4A GMB Weever Sloop Windbase Groep Bolckmans E-Connection Project Lighthouse Projects BV

    * Decommissioning Vestas V90 | Netherlands * In the Jacobahaven, just south of the impressive Neeltje Jans flood barrier, three Vestas V90 3MW wind turbines will be dismantled by Business in Wind. The first one is gone, the other two will follow later this year and next year.   On Tuesday, people, cranes and trucks were scheduled to dismantle this first Vestas V90 3MW. Only the wind did not cooperate, there was no choice but to adjust the schedule. The forecast looked better for the night. During the day there was still peace and quiet around this V90, as the people who were going to do this job tried to get some sleep beforehand. At midnight, the wind died down, the construction lights came on and they started this decommissioning job. Wednesday at noon, 13 hours later, the turbine was gone, and the wind picked up again. Sometimes you need the weather to cooperate a little bit 😊and a motivated team to get the job done. The V90 turbine is stored in Ede and ready for transportation to Italy for a second life. Next week foundation demolition will commence. On the last picture which is made this afternoon, you see that the site is empty and peace and quiet again. Time to start a beautiful weekend. * Refurbishment | Vestas * A new part of our company is in house refurbishment. That's why about one year ago, Teunis van de Brink started at Business in Wind. He is responsible for the refurbishment projects which are slowly starting. Teunis has a good track record and many years experience in wind turbine- and especially gearbox refurbishment. Within a few weeks we will start with the construction of our new facility with a complete workshop, 80 tonnes overhead crane and conditioned warehouse for refurbished major components. More about the new facility will follow within the coming weeks. This week, refurbishment works have continued on two Vestas V80s. The pitch system on the hub is being renewed, and the generator bearings are being replaced. Later this year, these V80s will be installed in Turkey. A separate spare V80 gearbox will be completely refurbished, to be used as a spare on this project. At the same time, we’re working to upgrade a V90 3MW gearbox for a different project, on which more will follow later. *** Would you also like to work in the renewable world of wind energy? * Working in the circulair wind industry * Within our company, the work of our various employees is very diverse. To give you a bit of an idea, we take you on a tour - in words and pictures – with our employees and describe a part of their activities of last week.   📸 1: Daniëlla and Rob were in #Bilbao at Wind Europe to talk and investigate what is going on in the market. And of course to talk about the second life of the to-be-repowered wind turbines that we can support with the full scope.  📸 2: Teunis has been active together with technicians to #refurbish Vestas V80 wind turbines to prepare them for installation in #TurkeyNiels is working from the office on several ongoing #dismantling projects in the #Netherlands, as well as future projects abroad. 📸 3: Jakob takes care of company financing, business cases and structure. Also he is working with the start-up of our new business units for #refurbishment services and spare parts. As trainee, Tom supports with the start-up of these new business units. 📸 4: Derck is active in investigating all parts we have in stock and sort and pack the #Enercon #printboards, #Vestas #Skiipacks, investigate serial numbers and types of Vestas #gearboxes, #generators, available for sale.  📸 5: Herman went to #Belgium, where civil works started to install a Vestas V90 soon. Next to that he manages a site in the south of the Netherlands where foundation demolition is ongoing while vibration measurement is installed, to prevent excessive vibration affecting fishes in a nearby building.  📸 6: Wim presented at a Vattenfall Meeting how Business in Wind looks towards the circular economy in the wind industry. And today Wim was invited by Aspiravi to enjoy the Saxo E3 cup in Belgium. Next to see the race, many people of the Belgium Wind industry are joining, a good place for networking. 📸 7: Edward was in #Wareham, #UK, to prepare the commissioning starting in the coming weeks to get four Vestas V80s connected to the grid and generate renewable energy.  📸 8: Anneke arranged a photographer to make portrait pictures of two new colleagues so they can get a place between our team on our website. And today she makes this LinkedIn post. Matthijs and Ellen take care of Finance, like project control, analytics, cashflow planning, invoicing, payments to our suppliers, budgets and forecasts and so on.  📸 9: Rick was visiting sites in #Scotland. One site to discuss commissioning of four Enercon E70s, slowly starting as grid connection will become available next week and another site to discuss the preparation to install another E70 in the coming months.  📸 10: Martijn, yeah he was taking a break to go skiing in Austria, because some time off is also important. We wish you a great weekend!   *** Would you also like to work in the renewable world of wind energy? Take part in our adventure and make a difference! * Renewable Energy | Ukraine * In the #Ukraine as everyone knows, there is a shortage of energy.  As wind energy is relatively fast to realize, it is an interesting option for the Ukraine.  In the spring of last year, we decommissioned 2 GE 2,5MW wind turbines formerly owned by Storm in Belgium. At this moment technicians in the Ukraine are installing these turbines so they can start producing renewable energy.    The customer does need guts to do so as it is still full of risks in Ukraine. The relation with this customer is very good and he appreciates the cooperation, because at this moment two Vestas V90 3MW wind turbines are also on their way to Ukraine. For us, it is a challenge to get all the necessary documents for custom clearance and transporting used wind turbines to Ukraine. First we need to proof there is no relation with Russia in any part of the project. Next step to enable import in Ukraine is to discuss and share paperwork with all following parties: Chamber of Commerce, Customs, Customs agent, Importer, Transport Company. There are a lot of parties involved to get the wind turbines finally across the border. As you can see on the pictures, the wind turbines arrived in the snow, now the field is green and the wind turbines are standing. Within the coming weeks they are expected to generate energy.    *** Would you also like to work in the renewable world of wind energy? Take part in our adventure and make a difference! * New face | Derck * We are pleased to announce that our team has once again been extended by a new member of staff. With this post this new face introduces himself personally to you:   My name is Derck van Ommeren, 38 years old, living in Putten together with my wife Eline and our two young boys aged 3 and 6. In my spare time, I like to play tennis with friends from my former soccer team as well as spending time with my children.   I’ve been involved in the wind energy industry for the better part of the last two decades. Initially as a service technician. After three years in the field service, I was asked to set up an online platform for wind turbine spare parts. In this capacity, I have been involved in service support and spare parts sales for the last 14 years. Through this role, I was lucky enough to travel to many beautiful places around the world for my visits at wind farms. And along the way, I met many wonderful people.   On the first of March I’ve started as Manager Parts at Business in Wind. My assignment is to set up the spare parts department. Together with Business in Wind Projects and our new refurbishment division, we will not only give complete turbines a second life, but individual turbine parts will receive a renewed purpose as well. Our goal is to increase circularity in any way possible, everything that possibly can, will be re-used.   I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead, and together with my new colleagues be able to offer the best solutions for our customers. #SharingCommitment #windturbine #SpareParts #circularity

    * Decommissioning Vestas V90 | Netherlands *  In #Kats, #Zeeland, three #Vestas V90 3MW owned by #Camperwind and #Zeeuwind are being decommissioned. One is already on its way to Ukraïne. Next one will leave site within the coming days. The last one will be refurbished to replace an existing wind turbine in the UK.  Many wind turbine owners are happy with the wind speeds of February but for us the unpredictable windspeed makes our work a little different and give more challenge.    Foundation demolition is also started. This proces needs to be executed very carefull, although big machinery is being used. We want to re-use as much as possible, including the foundation inserts and it is very easy to cause significant damage to the inserts.    In the near future #Nordex will install new wind turbines in Kats to continue to generate renewable energy. * Final Touches at Dintelhaven * Last week, in the bustling heart of Dintelhaven, our dedicated teams completed the dismantling process of the remaining Vestas V90 3MW wind turbines. Did you know that once these wind turbines were the tallest in the Netherlands back in 2005? We're thrilled with the significant progress achieved by organizing an extra main crane to be able to dismantle at two WTG locations at the same time so we could make maximum use of the short available wind gap. Now, our focus is on the last few remaining foundations, which will be demolished by Weever Sloop. With their experienced team, they will carefully demolish the concrete so the inserts can be reused and later transported to the next destination.
